Catwalk 2016 raises more than $370k for childhood and ovarian cancer

Martin Truex Jr. and Sherry Pollex raised more than $370,000 at their seventh annual Catwalk for a Cause to support childhood and ovarian cancers Wednesday, May 18. This was their first Catwalk since rebranding the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation to focus on ovarian cancer, after Sherry’s stage 3c ovarian cancer diagnosis in 2014. The sold-out crowd was immersed in a beach theme for the evening, weaving around a carefully crafted sand dune within the exposed-brick walls of Merino’s furniture warehouse in Mooresville, N.C. The scent of hydrangeas mixed with wafts of shrimp tacos and every possible beach-going fare and cocktail. Famous attendees included Martin’s NASCAR colleagues Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joey Logano, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Danica Patrick. The Foundation’s signature fundraiser has continued to grow since Sherry first conceived the idea in 2009 when 50 people were in attendance. But this year, so much felt different. “I have never, in my four years of managing this event, seen everyone involved, so engaged and – even when inconvenienced by long bathroom lines or drink lines – just filling the room with joy,” said Sandy Plemmons, executive director of the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. “Tonight, this crowd enabled us to really make a difference in this fight.” While funds raised will go to local efforts to research and treat childhood and ovarian cancers, every attendee came away...
