Monte Carlo Resort & Casino hosted more than 50 guests for a Martin Truex Jr. Foundation poker tournament on Thursday, February 25 in Las Vegas, NV. NASCAR’s biggest stars were on-hand for friendly off-track competition and to support a good cause.
Celebrity guests included: Martin Truex Jr., Michael Waltrip, Kurt Busch, Marcos Ambrose, NASCAR writer Jenna Fryer, the No. 56 Crew Chief Pat Tryson and the No. 47 Crew Chief Frank Kerr. Participants had a chance to shake hands, mingle, and get pictures with their favorite drivers during breaks between play. More than 100 fans came out to watch the tournament and get an up-close look at their favorite drivers.
Jeff Hernley, of Spooner, WI, was the overall winner of the tournament. The top five finishers split an $8,000 pot. He was also given a presentation check signed by all of the participating drivers. He was joined at the final table by Truex, who went all-in several times.
“For me it was an experience of a lifetime. I have been a NASCAR fan for a long time with Darrell Waltrip being my favorite driver for years. Of course, it was an honor (playing) with Michael and Martin in the tournament,” said Hernley.
NASCAR Champion Martin Truex Jr. and The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation (MTJF) would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, the drivers, fans and members of the NASCAR community who came out and supported the foundation during the Poker Tournament.
The Foundation plans to host another poker tournament in September. For the most up-to-date information, please visit: www.martintruexjrfoundation.com
