Truex Takes Part In Oprah's BIG GIVE
Mooresville, NC. (April 25, 2008) – Truex finds himself amid other things while fielding questions about his contract negotiations this weekend; but none as unlikely as being a part of Oprah's "BIG GIVE." The 27-year old NJ native was one of the first to step up to the plate to answer the call to help local Charlotte ABC affiliate WSOC-TV with their Oprah challenge as part of her now famous, BIG GIVE TV series. After receiving $10,000.00 from Oprah's show, WSOC-TV challenged local businesses to donate items to fill back packs of almost 1,500 children in the Charlotte area through the Second Harvest Metrolina Food Bank. The driver and his staff at the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation quickly donated diecast, hero cards and sought cash and product donations from other drivers in the NASCAR Community. The station has garnered almost $40,000 to date, so much that Oprah's staff chose the top-3 ABC affiliates across the country that raised the most money and gave them another $30,000 to see how far they could take their giving. Other drivers have stepped up to the challenge with pallets of Gatorade, board games, books, and canned goods for the kids. A little giving in our own backyard could do us all a little good.
